Formed in 1990 by a group of friends; B.S. Ong, B.H. Ong, Chan King Fook and S Gopal Krishna Pillay as an independent affiliate of the publicly held HPL group of companies, Lushington pioneered the introduction of Singapore and S.E.Asia onto the major international touring map.
Lushington is a privately owned company of Mr. B.S. Ong, one of Asia’s foremost and innovative business leaders and headed by Englishman, Michael Roche who has recorded 30 years of Asian management experience in Asia. His work has taken him to over 60 countries worldwide since his graduation from The London College Of Fashion and incorporated 7 years in high-end fashion in London’s West End. At college he immediately took on roles such as College Social Secretary and Sabbatical College Union President, which brought him close to his other passion of Music. He has concentrated his career melding East meets West and blending businesses with his lifestyle, design, music, retail and hotel experience.
Lushington was established to promote Eric Clapton’s first Asian Tour and to date it has promoted over 250 international top flight artistes.
Today, both Lushington and the Asian concert scene are thriving. Lushington enjoys the distinction of being the country’s first & foremost rock, pop and jazz promoter, promoting the likes of Madonna, Imagine Dragons, Bruno Mars, Coldplay, 5 Seconds of Summer, One Direction, Maroon 5, Linkin Park, Sigur Ros, Sting, Santana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Michael Jackson, Elton John, The Police, Green Day, Eagles to name but a few.
Outside of its headquarters in Singapore, Lushington has staged shows in Kuala Lumpur, Bali, Hong Kong, Manila and Taipei.
Lushington has also diversified into other musical formats, including European opera (Luciano Pavarotti and Jose Carreras); Asian pop (Chage and Aska, L’Arc-en-Ciel from Japan; BigBang, 2NE1 from Korea; Lata Mangeshkar from India); Vegas-style lounge music (Tony Bennett) and world music (Yanni).
Lushington also introduced non-musical acts to Asia, ranging from dinner theatres with Peter Ustinov and Dame Edna, the non-stop action of the World Wrestling Foundation and the premier nighttime fun/walk experience Electric Run.
In 2008, Lushington joined forces with its affiliate, Komoco Motors Pte Ltd, to form Singapore GP Pte Ltd, which stages the world’s only Formula 1 night race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. In its inaugural year, the event broke records in many fields and realised 300,000 ticket sales and 100% sell-out for all three days of the September race weekend.
In the first five years (2008-2012), 1.3 million people have attended the Singapore Grand Prix, with over 500,000 tickets taken up by overseas visitors. The race has boosted the Singapore economy, bringing in incremental tourism receipts of about S$150 million per year. SGP accredits over 35,000 working personnel each race day to deliver the event. The Singapore Grand Prix has been labelled and media-acclaimed as “the jewel in the F1 crown” and “the greatest F1 show on earth”. Each year, the Singapore Grand Prix aims to raise the bar further with a stellar line-up of race teams and international music stars. Past headliners include Bon Jovi, Pharrell Williams, Jennifer Lopez, Robbie Williams, Mayday, Maroon 5, Katy Perry, Shakira, Jay Chou, Mariah Carey, Linkin Park, Missy Elliott and many more.
In 2013, Live Nation Entertainment, Inc. and Lushington Entertainments Pte Ltd announced their joint venture, Live Nation Lushington, to promote live concerts in Hong Kong and Singapore.
